Costa likely to go to Juventus not Spurs

TRANSFER TALK

The name in the frame this morning is an old one, 26-year-old (27 in September) Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa. This is not the first time we have been linked with him, today it is the Daily Mirror who bring us the story.

Thy suggest the Brazilian is unsettled at the perennial German Champions who went out of the UEFA Champions League to Real Madrid after some very dubious refereeing decisions on Tuesday. He came on in that game after 71 minutes.

The Mirror suggest we are going to offer Moussa Sissoko in return, that's hopeful! They tell us the Brazilian is rated at £30 million but being on the continent he would be valued in euros so their figure should probably read £25.12 million (€30m - AUS$42.87m - US$32.18m) or £29.30 million (€35m - AUS$50.02m - US$37.55m).

Moussa Sissoko is only worth around £18 million (€21.5m - AUS$30.73m - US$23.07m) and not being a home grown German you would have to question why they might want him. I can't see that he is their level of player so this sounds a rather optimistic guess from the British press. That rather suggests the rest of the story might be made up too.

Juventus are interested and have made contact with Bayern Munich to ask about the wingers availability. Gazzetta Dello Sport recently reported that they enquired about him when asking about Kingsley Coman and Medhi Benatia and that Juventus have been following Costa for quite a while now.

Boss Max Allegri sees him as a good fit for his 4-2-3-1 system, which suggests he would fit nicely into our system too. The value placed on him was £41.83 million (€50m - AUS$71.43m - US$53.63m) but that he would more than likely to be able to be attained for £25.12 million to £29.30 million, which rather suggests the Daily Mirror have been lazy in not converting his valuation from euros to pounds, just changing the currency sign.

It is thought Bayern Munich want 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt (another player we have previously been linked with) to replace Costa who seems to have fallen out of favour with 57-year-old head coach Carlo Ancelotti we are told. The Nike boot wearing left-footed left winger is under contract until 2020.

The story has no sources and there hasn't been prior news in the German media which you would expect. Tottenham do not release transfer target news to the press and talented as he is I would be surprised if there is much in this. His age doesn't seem right for us, 27 at the start of next season, I'd be more confident if he were a couple of years younger, but if he leaves Bayern Munich I'd expect to see him turning up at Juventus who can offer him the almost guaranteed trophies that he gets in Germany.
