Transfer Talk - Will we reignite interest in Çalhanoğlu

TRANSFER TALK

Last summer Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for 23-year-old (24 next February) right-footed attacking midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

The Turkish international (he has 26 caps and 8 goals) and Bayer Leverkusen free-kick specialist is the same player who tried to stop Son Heung-min leaving and suggested he was wrong to join Spurs and that he had been badly advised.

Those remarks are looking pretty foolish now, given the two season Spurs have had and the goalscoring season Son Heung-min has had. Bayer Leverkusen are 12th, just 3 points off 16th place in an 18 team league.

It is reported that the Bundesliga side are willing to sell him this summer with both Manchester United and Chelsea interested. I haven't seen any reports linking us with him again but it is unlikely we will have just forgotten about him. Players are often tracked for years with a view to signing them if everything drops into place at the right time. Is his availability at the right time for us now, you would have thought so, is the price, that might be another matter.

He is currently suspended for agreeing to join a Turkish club and then not doing so and has been transfer listed by the German side who want his full release clause which the Daily Star say is £33.2 million (€38.63m), which ESPN say is £19 million (€22.11m), which the Sun say is £32.25 million (€37.53m) and which HITC in 2015 reported as £34.37 million (€40m).

We'll have to wait and see if he is still on our radar.
