Potential Iniesta successor also watched by Spurs

TRANSFER TALK

Spanish news outlet El Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona are lining up a move for a player Mauricio Pochettino has been keeping an eye on, Marseille’s highly-rated teenage central midfielder Maxime Lopez.

The were various reports during the summer transfer window of Spurs interest and scouting trips to see the 19-year-old (20 in December) French Under-21 international (he has 2 caps after gaining 3 at Under-20 level).

Lopez is also being followed by that other Spanish giant, Real Madrid, the player being admired by head coach Zinidine Zidane.

He is under contract until 2021 having only agreed an extension in February. This season he has 3 assists in 7 appearances, his 517 minutes total game time equating to 5.74 full games.

French daily newspaper L'Equipe report that Barcelona officials have met with the agent of the player. They wrote last February that the Spanish side saw him as a potential successor for 33-year-old (34 next May) Spanish international midfielder Andrés Iniesta.

It is thought that these were initial discussions to advice Lopez of genuine Barcelona interest ahead of a potential move next summer.
